Senior Internship Project
In my final semester at The University of North Florida, I decided to do my senior internship with Visit Jacksonville. Visit Jacksonville is the official travel information resource for the Jacksonville area and puts all the information you need about Jacksonville and the beaches right at your fingertips. In the spring of 2022, I was their marketing intern for four months.
Through Visit Jacksonville, I learned a lot about tourism development and gained a lot of knowledge about the marketing industry via hands-on experiences. I worked one on one with their marketing team. I sat in on their weekly team meetings to discuss the progress of assigned deliverables and also sat in on meetings with The Dalton Agency to discuss public relations material and collateral. I aided Visit Jacksonville in completing some of their deliverables by writing blogs for their website, writing press releases, and curating TikToks and other social media posts based on what deliverables need to be met. For example, I worked with the head of their social media accounts to execute a quarterly photo contest regarding their mobile visitors center, which was then posted on different platforms. During my internship, I was also trained in Crowdriff, Tempest, and Photoshop.
Through Visit Jacksonville, I also got to attend events that occurred around the city. I attended press conferences, Visit Jacksonville social media ambassador meetings, and The Players as a part of the media team. At The Players, I was able to experience the event and film content for different social platforms. It was indeed a fantastic experience. Another experience I gained through this internship was working with the Destination Experience Team at the Visitors Center Downtown. Through this experience, I gained a strong understanding of how tourism and development affect Jacksonville, as I got to meet and talk with visitors one on one.
Overall, words cannot describe how thankful I am for the opportunity to be Visit Jacksonville’s marketing intern this spring. I have gained many valuable insights into the marketing and tourism industry over the past four months. I cannot wait to apply my new knowledge and experiences to a career in the future.
